The “Coal Miner” Trapper has two mirror polished 440A stainless steel blades. The master blade is a clip point and the knife also features a spey blade. The master blade also has a “Coal Miner” text etching. The blades each open with a match strike pull. Unlike a standard nail nick or long pull, a match strike pull has serrations inside the groove of the pull. These serrations allow you to strike a match with your knife. The blade uses the half stops and slip joints found in traditional pocketknives. The handles of this knife are made with bone, which is a natural material and prone to cracking. Therefore, some knives may have cracks near the pins or bolster.
This knife is a traditional style trapper pocket knife. Trapper knives are a style of jack knives, and are distinct for having two blades of equal length. They have a clip point master blade that is generally used for detailed cutting work. The spey blade is an all purpose utility blade, and its blunter point makes it perfect for skinning.
The “Coal Miner” Trapper is a perfect knife for a collector, or for use as an everyday carry. With its black jigged bone handle and contrasting shield and bolsters, this knife is a beautiful piece. Still, it makes for a strong and sturdy knife at a great price.
