Rough Ryder’s “Classic Carbon” Sowbelly is a traditional pocket knife with yellow composition handles. The handles also feature nickel silver pins, bolsters, a special Classic Carbon shield, and brass liners.
The “Classic Carbon” Sowbelly has three mirror polished T10 carbon steel blades. The carbon steel used in these knives is easily sharpened, but prone to rust. It is best to keep the blades well maintained and clean, and frequently oiled. The master blade is a clip point and the knife also features a sheepsfoot and spey blade. The bolsters have a pinched bolster shape, giving them a slight indent on each end of the knife. They also feature a slant-R embossed design. The blade opens with a match strike pull. Unlike a standard nail nick or long pull, a match strike pull has serrations inside the groove of the pull. These serrations allow you to strike a match with your knife. The blade uses the half stops and slip joints found in traditional pocketknives.
This knife follows a sowbelly pattern, which is essentially a heavy duty version of a stockman knife. It was named a sowbelly for the rounded shape of the handles which resembles a pig’s belly. The rounded handles keep the tips of the blades from catching on pockets when the knife is folded.
The “Classic Carbon” Sowbelly is a perfect knife for a collector, or for use as an everyday carry. The yellow composition handles combined with the pins and shield give this knife a timeless appearance. With more than ten patterns in this series, it doesn’t get much more traditional than this.
