Rough Ryder’s “Classic Carbon” Muskrat is a traditional pocket knife with yellow composition handles. The handles also feature nickel silver pins, bolsters, a special Classic Carbon shield, and brass liners.
The “Classic Carbon” Muskrat has two mirror polished T10 carbon steel blades. The carbon steel used in these knives is easy to sharpen, but prone to rust. It is best to keep the blades well maintained, clean, and oiled. The blades are a pair of symmetrical clip points that face in opposing directions. The bolsters have a pinched bolster shape, giving them a slight indent on each end of the knife. They also feature a slant-R embossed design. The blade opens with a match strike pull. Unlike a standard nail nick or long pull, a match strike pull has serrations inside the groove of the pull. These serrations allow you to strike a match with your knife. The blade uses the half stops and slip joints found in traditional pocketknives.
The muskrat pattern is a traditional pattern of slip joint pocket knives. It is a double ended knife, typically with two clip point blades. The muskrat is ideal for skinning small animals, with two blades to continue skinning if one blade goes dull. The pattern was originally created in 1940 for trapping.
The “Classic Carbon” Muskrat is a perfect knife for a collector, or for use as an everyday carry. The yellow composition handles combined with the pins and shield give this knife a timeless appearance. With more than ten patterns in this series, it doesn’t get much more traditional than this.
