Rough Ryder’s “Classic Carbon” Canoe is a traditional pocket knife with yellow composition handles. The handles also feature nickel silver pins, bolsters, a special Classic Carbon shield, and brass liners.
The “Classic Carbon” Canoe has a pair of polished T10 carbon steel blades. The carbon steel used in these knives is easy to sharpen, but prone to rust. It is best to keep the blade well maintained, clean, and oiled. The master blade is a larger spear point with a secondary pen blade. The bolsters have a pinched bolster shape, giving them a slight indent on each end of the knife. They also feature a slant-R embossed design. The blade opens with a match strike pull. Unlike a standard nail nick or long pull, a match strike pull has serrations inside the groove of the pull. These serrations allow you to strike a match with your knife. The blade uses the half stops and slip joints found in traditional pocketknives.
This knife follows the canoe pattern, named for the canoe-like shape of the handles and bolsters. The patter originated in the late 1800s or early 1900s, and has two blades bearing on a single back spring. The master blade is usually a spear point, and the other a pen. The pattern is popular with anglers because it cuts through fishing line with ease.
The “Classic Carbon” Canoe is a perfect knife for a collector, or for use as an everyday carry. The yellow composition handles combined with the pins and shield give this knife a timeless appearance. With more than ten patterns in this series, it doesn’t get much more traditional than this.
